This study has 7 sessions, incorporating an introductory session and 6 lessons. The Study Set includes the Study Guide by Catherine Upchurch and Clifford M. Yeary and the New Collegeville Bible Commentary, Praying the Scriptures, by Demetrius Dumm (Liturgical Press).
Demetrius Dumm, OSB, PhD, is a monk of St. Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe, Pennsylvania. A professor of New Testament for almost fifty years, he is the author of A Mystical Portrait of Jesus and editor and contributor to The Collegeville Pastoral Dictionary of Biblical Theology. He has given numerous retreats and workshops designed to allow scholarship to bear fruit in the spiritual life of the nonscholar.
This study explores the always relevant ways God has transformed history and invites participation through praise, thanksgiving, and the many other ways Scripture teaches prayer. Sessions include discovering the importance of praising God revealed in mighty deeds and saving acts; Jesus' prayers in Scripture; how Scripture feeds liturgical prayer in the Eucharist; Paul's command to pray without ceasing and our call to continually offer a sacrifice of praise.
Clifford M. Yeary served for many years as the associate director of Little Rock Scripture Study. He is the author of several Bible studies, including The Sermon on the Mount, The Eucharist in Scripture, Pilgrim People, and Scripture and the Rosary, all published by Little Rock Scripture Study/Liturgical Press.
