Patricia McCarthy, CND, is a teacher, lecturer, and retreat director on the theology and spirituality of Christian nonviolence. She is the author ofThe Scent of Jasmine: Reflections on Peace for Everyday Life, andOf Passion and Folly: A Scriptural Foundation for Peace, both published by Liturgical Press.
This study helps us to reflect on God?s call to holiness and our response, the requirements of discipleship, and the lasting rewards of following the way of justice and peace. A good foundation for anyone growing in public discipleship and ideal for those already engaged in social outreach who want to develop a deeper spiritual and scriptural foundation. The study examines the teaching and ministry of Jesus as well as the call, life and message of several Old Testament prophets. Involvement in this study will provide deep insights into the consistent concern for justice in the Bible as well as stirring one?s conscience at it provides opportunities to explore how we and our communities of faith respond to the needs of others.
Catherine Upchurch is the former director of Little Rock Scripture Study and the general editor of the?Little Rock Catholic Study Bible. Catherine speaks and writes regularly on a variety of biblical and spiritual topics. She is the author of several books in the?Alive in the Word?series, including?Mary: Favored by God; Christmas: Season of Wonder and Hope; and?Hospitality: Welcoming the Stranger. She is also a contributor to Give Us This Day published by Liturgical Press.
